Student Public Comments at the Jan. 9 Board of Trustees Meeting
Students delivered public comments to college administrators and trustees during the January 9 Board of Trustees meeting. In total, 15 students made public comments. The board then appointed Student Government Association President Frank Scales as a non-voting, ex-officio student trustee.

Faculty Advisor Appoints Recording Secretary in Breach of Constitution
Disputes within the SGA at CCP have escalated into what can only be described as a crisis of legitimacy. Faculty Advisor, already embattled following a No-Confidence vote in November, breached constitutional procedures during winter break to unilaterally appoint Brayan Orozco as Recording Secretary.

CCP Students and SGA Host the First Winter Formal
Despite constant dismissing, reluctance and zero support from most administration. The SGA and students successfully planned and organized the Winter Formal of 2024. The first ever winter formal at Community College of Philadelphia. This was important as Francis Scales and Jaritsa Hernandez-Orsini wanted to create something for students to come together and have fun!

SGA Holds No-Confidence Vote on Faculty Advisor Markovitz: Passed 7-1
In a decisive move, the Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board voted 7-1 in favor of a no-confidence resolution against Faculty Advisor Dr. Jeffrey Markovitz on November 19, 2024. The resolution cited numerous violations of the SGA Constitution and Faculty Advisor contract, as well as a failure to foster a cohesive and functional student government.

College Grants Raises for Administrators, Confidential Staff
Amid festering negotiations between the administration and the union at CCP, which represents Full-Time Faculty, Part-Time Faculty, and Classified Staff, preemptively granting raises to non-union employees embodies the unwillingness of the administration to meet the union’s demands. Traditionally, non-union administrators and staff receive the same raises as union workers after contracts are finalized.

Annual Pottery Sale Brings Art to Life at CCP
On Wednesday, November 13th, the Community College of Philadelphia’s Art Department held their yearly pottery sale in the Bonnell Lobby from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Students and faculty browsed tables full of functional and sculptural ceramics. A kaleidoscope of bowls, plates, coffee mugs, vases, goblets, and more caught the eye of passersby, showcased talent from student’s beginner to advanced.
